AMTI Model SF3 Submersible 6-Axis Force & Torque Transducer
The AMTI Model SF3 Submersible 6-Axis Force & Torque Transducer is a specialised strain gauge sensor engineered specifically to measure forces and moments concurrently in underwater environments. Serving as the waterproofed variant of AMTI’s popular MC3A series, the SF3 resolves multi-directional forces that shift amplitude over time under high hydrostatic pressures. It is the premier choice across the UK for marine technology research, ocean engineering test towing tanks, underwater robotic arm validation, subsea structure model profiling, and offshore energy test rigs.
Manufactured with a compact, ultra-rigid 3-inch (76.2mm) cubed body from heat-treated stainless steel, the SF3 is fully hermetically sealed to an IP68 protection class. To endure underwater pressure gradients without signal shifting or casing deformation, the transducer's internal cavity is completely filled with high-grade mineral oil. This configuration incorporates a proprietary internal pressure compensation bladder that continuously reacts to higher and lower external fluid density shifts, establishing a permanent zero-pressure difference across the internal strain gauge matrix. As a result, the sensor is formally rated for complete submersion in fresh water at depths of up to 70 metres for one continuous week.
